The Full Story
It is an immense honour for us to have been part of another unforgettable trip, and we would to thank Holland America for inviting us onboard once again and giving us the opportunity to share some of our Brazilian culture with you.
Over the last 20 years, Oi Brasil has earned a global reputation in the events industry as a specialist in bespoke Brazilian and Cuban show productions and as an ambassador of Latin culture and entertainment. We have had the pleasure of working with some of the biggest brands in the world, and many famous people over the years, such as Prince Charles (now King Charles) and Bill Clinton amongst many others celebrities and royalties. Oi Brasil was also responsible for providing all the latin entertainment for the last James Bond movie, and we recorded one of the tracks. But one our longest and most valued relationships is the one we have with our friends at Holland America, as this year marks our10 years anniversary bringing the Brazilian spirit of life to such wonderful guests as yourselves.
For us to be able to share this culture with you is incredible important. Life in Brazil can be really tough, poverty and crime are huge issues here, and it is often cultural opportunities like this that can make a difference. Music and dance were life changing for some of our Oi Brasil members: Antonio, our founder and director, had to sell sweets as a kid on the streets to earn money for his family. Gustavo, one of our dancers, and Bosco our guest lecturer, were both shoe shine boys in the city; our Capoeira instructor Dayvid used to sell oysters at the beach. For the majority of our performers, it was the power of music and dance, and in particular the power of "Samba" through the work of the samba schools and the social projects, what gave them the chance of a better life.
And that is the reason why a percentage of our profits goes back to the community where everything started and where are roots are, to ensure children & young people have meaningful access to Culture through Dance, Arts and Music, as we have had the first-hand experience of the positive benefits that can bring to those living in a world of poverty, violence and the lure of the gangs. Moreover, all profits from the T-shirts sold onboard are used towards "The Manana Project".
So for us to be able to come onboard and bring you activities and shows like this can be really transformative to our lives and those of many others, so we thank you for that.
We are very honoured and we feel privileged to have been on board with you and we really hope our paths cross again, who is joining us to the next one?
